Most people in the world live in some kind of house or dwelling. Those houses come in all shapes and sizes, with different floor plans and layouts, and are furnished in a lot of different ways. Yet each home is precious and unique to its owner. But have you ever wondered whether God owns a house? And if He does, how could we recognize that house if we were to go in search of it today?

Friend, let me speak plainly and personally to your heart:
I want you to know that God has a house, and that house is not made of bricks or stone. It’s not defined by stained glass windows or towering steeples. It’s something far more precious, far more eternal—God’s house is His church, made up of His people, saved by the blood of His Son.

Now I need you to understand something very important:
Not just any house will do.
Not just any church will do.
Only the house Jesus built—the one described in the pages of the New Testament—is the one that belongs to Him. And it’s that house I’m inviting you to find, to love, and to enter.

  1. Who Built the House of God?

Let me be absolutely clear:
Jesus built it.
He said it Himself: “Upon this rock I will build My church.” That means it belongs to Him—it carries His name, it’s built on His identity, and it was purchased with His blood.

No man, no council, no religious tradition has the right to alter or remodel what Jesus has already built. Just as you wouldn’t let a guest come into your home and start tearing down walls or adding on rooms without permission, Jesus will not accept a version of His church that’s been changed to suit human preferences.

He is the builder.
He is the owner.
He has all authority.
And you and I—we are only guests in His house.

  1. What Are the Unique Characteristics of God’s House?

If I asked you what your home looks like, you could describe it—its color, the number of rooms, the shape of the roof. Well, the church has identifying marks too. And if the church you belong to doesn’t bear these marks, it’s not the one Jesus built.

Here’s what I want you to look for:

✅ The Foundation

It must be built on Jesus Christ alone—not on a human founder, a council, or a creed.

✅ The Name

It must carry His name—because He purchased it. The New Testament calls it the Church of God, the Church of Christ. It never wore denominational names. If your church is named after a man or a movement, that should tell you something.

✅ The Organization

Christ is the head—no one else. Local churches are led by qualified elders (also called bishops or shepherds), served by deacons, and taught by evangelists. There’s no hierarchy, no Pope, no headquarters on earth. Jesus is the King—and His rule is final.

✅ The Worship

Worship in the Lord’s house is simple, spiritual, and according to truth.

  • Praying through Jesus, the only mediator.
  • Preaching the pure gospel of Christ.
  • Giving freely and cheerfully each Lord’s Day.
  • The Lord’s Supper, remembered weekly in honor of Jesus’ sacrifice.
  • And singing—yes, just singing—vocal, heartfelt praise with no mechanical instruments.

That last one may surprise you. But listen closely: In the New Testament, the only music you will find in Christian worship is singing. Not once is instrumental music authorized by Jesus or His apostles. When God said to sing, that excluded everything else. Just like when Noah was told to use gopher wood, that automatically ruled out any other kind.

If your church has added what God never commanded, I must ask: Who gave that permission? It wasn’t Christ.

  1. Can We Establish the House of God Today?

Absolutely. And not only can we—we must.

Just like a skilled builder can follow a blueprint to recreate the same house anywhere in the world, I can take the Bible, and by following its plan, establish the same church Jesus built—right here, right now.

If I follow the New Testament pattern—its organization, its worship, its doctrine, its name—then I can be sure I’ve found His house.

And so can you.

But the moment I add to it… the moment I substitute my will for His…
that’s when I leave His house and build my own.

Let Me Ask You, Friend…

  • Is the church you attend built on Christ or on human tradition?
  • Does it carry His name or someone else’s?
  • Is Jesus truly the head of your church?
  • Are there qualified elders and deacons, or has it been restructured to suit convenience?
  • Does it worship according to the Bible, or according to popular culture?
  • Does it teach that there is one body, one true church, just as Scripture says?

If the answer is no—if what you’ve found doesn’t match what Jesus built—then I want to plead with you:
Go in search of the true house of God.

Or better yet, open the Bible and build it—right where you are.
You don’t need permission from a board or a denomination.
You already have Jesus’ blueprint.

Friend, this message isn’t about criticism—it’s about truth.
And the truth is this:

Jesus has one house,
one church,
one body.
And He wants you in it.

But He’ll only add you to His church when you come on His terms.
You must believe in Him, repent of sin, confess His name, and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins—just like they did in Acts 2. And when you do, He will add you to His church. Not a denomination. Not a man-made organization.
His house.

So, I ask again:
Are you in the house that Jesus built?
Are you worshiping in truth?
Are you following the blueprint?

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
(John 8:32)

And that truth, friend, is found in the Word of God.

To God be the glory.
