“Predicament” a difficult, perplexing, or trying situation. One can certainly say the children of Israel was in just such a fix. Laurel & Hardy would say “another fine Mess you have gotten us into.”  We have a variety of ways of saying it, “In a Pickle.” “Up against the wall”.

The one that most aptly describes Israel predicament is “caught between and rock and a hard place” for they certainly was. Trapped between Pharaohs army and the Red Sea. Crossing the Red Sea was not an option as it would take many days for 3+ million people to boat across. Pharaoh’s army was within sight and coming fast in their chariots. They were now bent on revenge for the plagues especially the last one that caused the death of so many.

But wait had God made a mistake. He had led them there. Remember the pillar of fire and smoke. They appeared to be wondering around in the barren place. First going one way then another before backtracking over the ground they had just crossed.

The children of Israel complained to Moses and blamed him for the fix. Moses turned to God for directions and the solution. Certainly, for all intents and purposes this was the end of the Exodus and almost certainly the Hebrew people.

Yet God does work in unusual ways. His plans had already been laid. He needs no help to bring them to the land flowing with milk and honey, save the obedience of His children.  Come with us as we see God’s solution to the “Rock and the hard Place”
