Let me speak plainly to your heart today—because this is not just another religious conversation. This is about the foundation of your faith, the authority that governs your soul, and the truth that determines your eternal destiny.
You see, in our world today, there are so many voices—each claiming to speak truth. Some say the authority in religion is the church. Others turn to creed books, church councils, or even personal feelings. But I want to ask you a simple question: Who has the right to make the rules? Who defines what is right and what is wrong when it comes to your faith?
Let me show you something you already understand. In sports—take the Olympics, for example—there must be a rule book, right? Without it, chaos reigns. Every athlete agrees to compete under the authority of one standard: the Olympic Committee’s rule book. No games can be played, and no winner can be declared, unless everyone submits to that authority.
Now tell me—if that’s true in sports, how much more important is it in matters of the soul? If we all follow different rule books in religion, how can there be unity? One person looks to a creed, another to tradition, another to what they feel in their heart—and the result? Confusion. Division. Disunity.
Friend, we must ask: What is the authority in religion? And the answer begins here—with God. He is the Creator of all things. He built this house we call Earth, and just like you would have the right to set the rules in your home, God has the right to set the rules in His. You and I—we don’t get to rewrite what God has already authored.
But God has done something powerful. He gave all authority to His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus said it Himself: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18). Did you hear that? Not some authority. Not most. All.
Jesus is our authority in religion. He is the Head of the church. Everything—every doctrine, every practice, every decision—must begin and end with Him. He speaks not from human wisdom, but from divine authority.
But that leads to another question: How does Jesus communicate that authority today? I need you to hear this clearly—Jesus once taught by speaking directly to people. His words were powerful. They were authoritative. He taught with clarity, compassion, and conviction. And those words—those life-changing truths—did not vanish when He ascended into heaven.
Instead, He sent the Holy Spirit to guide His apostles into all truth. They wrote it down. That writing—the New Testament—is where you and I now find the authority of Christ. The Bible is not just a religious book. It is God’s voice on paper. It is the rule book for our faith, just like the Olympic manual governs the games. And you and I must read it, study it, obey it—because it will be the standard by which we are judged (John 12:48).
Now, I know some people ask, “Don’t we need more than the Bible?” There are religious groups today that add man-made books, church disciplines, and additional so-called “revelations” to their list of authorities. But I must be honest with you—we do not need those things. We already have what we need. The apostle Paul wrote that the Scriptures are able to make you complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Complete. Not partial. Not missing anything.
You don’t need a church council to tell you how to worship. You don’t need a creed book to teach you how to live. And you certainly don’t need modern revelations that contradict what the Bible already says. The Word of God is enough.
And yes, the Old Testament is the Word of God. But today, we live under a new covenant—the law of Christ. The Old Testament served as a tutor to bring us to Jesus, but now that the New Covenant has come, the old has passed away. It’s no longer binding. The Ten Commandments? Nine of them are repeated in the New Testament. But the Sabbath commandment? That was specific to the Jews and has been fulfilled in Christ.
So where does that leave you and me? Standing at the edge of eternity, holding the most powerful book ever written—the New Testament of Jesus Christ—and having to decide: Will I follow it? Will I live by it? Will I let it rule my life?
Friend, God is the Author of life. Jesus is the Authority over your soul. And the Bible is His revealed will for you. If you want to grow spiritually, if you want to run the Christian race and finish strong, you must study the Word. You must follow the rules. Because one day, that very Word will be the standard of your judgment.
So I plead with you—don’t listen to the noise of the world. Don’t settle for traditions of men or teachings based on feelings. Search for truth in the only place where it can be found—with God, through His Son, and in His Word.
And if you’re ready to take that journey with me, I hope you’ll keep walking with me. This search for truth is the most important journey of your life.
Let’s keep searching—together.
