I want you to examine your life through what I’m about to tell you, because this isn’t just a passage, it’s a test of your soul. In 1 John 5:1–5, I show you how you can truly know whether you belong to God and have eternal life.
First, I call you to test your belief. I need you to ask yourself honestly: Do you truly believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God who came in the flesh? This isn’t a casual belief—it’s foundational. If you deny Him, you cut yourself off from the Father. But if you believe in Him fully, you are born of God. That belief is what gives you victory over the world.
Then I urge you to test your love. I want you to look at how you treat others, especially your brothers and sisters in Christ. If you love God, you will love His children. This isn’t optional. I remind you that Jesus loved you enough to lay down His life, and I’m calling you to reflect that same kind of love. If you truly walk in the light, love will be evident in you.
Finally, I press you to test your obedience. It’s not enough to say you know God—you must keep His commandments. If you claim to know Him but refuse to obey, you’re deceiving yourself. Real love for God is shown through obedience, and I want you to understand this clearly: His commandments are not burdensome. They are meant to guide you into life, not weigh you down.
So I ask you directly, did you pass the test? Do you believe, do you love, and do you obey?
If you haven’t yet become a child of God, I’m calling you to act: hear the gospel, believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, confess Him openly, and be baptized for the remission of your sins. Rise from that water new, clean, and committed to faithfulness.
And if you already belong to Him but see where you’ve fallen short, don’t stay there. Turn back to God. Ask for forgiveness. Restore what’s been broken.
I’m not asking you to ignore this, I’m asking you to respond.
