“Slump! I ain’t in no slump. I just ain’t Hitting.” Yogi Berra.

That five letter word “slump,” is used and hated in baseball, and I suppose most every other sport as well. One would probably have to say that word is not a well-received one in any part of life.

No one likes to talk, think, or admit to being in a slump. In fact, the very idea can and often has forced a slump in someone’s life. Slump, to undergo a sudden, unexplained and prolonged fall in price, product or performance.

People in a slump are in a high state of concern when it is confirmed. This concern is based on at least two factors. First, what caused it?  Second, what can be done about it? Fixation on the first often hinders one from getting on with the second.  The greater anxiety is what can be done.

Certainly, it is fair to say churches often times find themselves in a bit of a slump.  Regardless of the cause digging out should be our primary interest.

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Here is the cure for the “Slump.” Returning to the basics of the Christian life. Faith, Hope, Love and Joy are the basics to being a Christian.

Come alone with us the next three Lord’s days as we examine these fundamentals of the Christian faith. Like so many slumping people returning to the basics can and very often does, elevate one’s performance.
