I want to talk to you this morning, not just about the path you’re walking, but about the choices you’re making on that path. Life is full of choices, and I’m sure you’ve felt that pressure too. I remember when I was younger, my parents would always say, “You’ve got to start thinking about your future, how you’re going to live, how you’re going to support yourself.” And sure enough, life brings you to those moments where you’re forced to choose.

But let me tell you: there is one choice that outweighs them all. Who are you going to serve: God or Satan? Because one day, you will reach a fork in the road. And the choice you make at that fork will echo into eternity.

Now, just a light note, my wife won’t let me go grocery shopping alone. Why? Because I can’t help myself when I get to the snack aisle. Too many choices, chips, cookies, you name it. And that’s just it, choices are everywhere, and sometimes, we make the wrong ones. But in 1 Peter 4, Peter gives you clear, powerful reasons to remain faithful to God.

  1. Jesus Died for You — That Alone Should Anchor Your Faithfulness

Peter opens chapter 4, reminding believers that Christ suffered in the flesh. And if you belong to Him, you need to arm yourself with that same mindset. Jesus suffered ridicule, beatings, and the cross for you.

John 3:16-17 tells you that God loved you enough to give His only Son—not to condemn you, but to save you.

Romans 5:6-9 reminds you that Christ didn’t die for perfect people. He died for you while you were still a sinner. That’s the kind of love you don’t walk away from.

1 John 4:19
says it plainly—you love because He first loved you.

So I have to ask you, if He went through all of that for you, how can you not remain faithful to Him?

  1. You’ve Already Spent Enough Time in Sin — Don’t Go Back

Peter says in 1 Peter 4:3 that you’ve already wasted enough time chasing after the world, after sin. Drunkenness, lust, selfish passions—those things once ruled your life. But not anymore.

Romans 8:12-13 tells you not to live according to the flesh anymore, because that life ends in death.

Romans 6 makes it clear: you’re either a slave to sin or a slave to righteousness. But only one path leads to eternal life.

You’ve been set free from sin. Don’t go back. You’ve already lived that life. It gave you shame and death. But now, you’ve been given a new life. Live it in faithfulness.

  1. People Are Watching — Let Them See the Light of Christ in You

In 1 Peter 4:4, Peter says the world is shocked when you stop living the way they do. They’re surprised when you don’t join in their sin, and sometimes, they’ll mock you for it. But that’s when your faith shines the brightest.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16 that you are the light of the world. Don’t hide that light. Let it shine. Let people see the difference in you so they can glorify God.

Romans 14:7 reminds you that no one lives or dies to themselves. Your life touches others. What you do matters. People are watching, and you need to be the influence that points them to Christ.

  1. Judgment is Coming — Be Ready

Peter gives you one of the most sobering reasons to remain faithful in verse 5: you will give an account to the One who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Hebrews 9:27 says it clearly: you’re going to die, and then you’re going to face judgment. 2 Corinthians 5:10 says you will appear before the judgment seat of Christ, and you’ll be judged for everything you’ve done, good or bad. And Matthew 25:46 spells it out: eternal punishment or eternal life. There is no third option.

You don’t want to stand before the Lord and realize too late that you didn’t stay faithful.

I know some of you have already made that most important choice to follow Jesus. You came to that fork in the road, and you chose the narrow path. But maybe, just maybe, you’ve started to slip. Maybe you’ve gotten distracted. Maybe you’ve let the world pull you back a little.

Let me remind you of what’s waiting at the end of the faithful road: No more pain. No more sorrow. No more tears. Just joy. Peace. Eternal life with Jesus.

That’s what Peter is urging you to hold on for. That’s why I’m urging you today, stay faithful.

Paul says in Romans 8:6 that to set your mind on the flesh is death, but to set your mind on the Spirit is life and peace. That’s the life I want. And I hope it’s the life you want too.

But if you walk away from that… if you choose the other road… the Bible is clear: “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). And I don’t want that for you. God doesn’t want that for you.

So here’s the question I leave you with: What road are you on? Have you chosen to serve Christ? Or have you fallen back into old habits, old sins, old paths?

If you’ve never obeyed the gospel, you still can. You can come, hear the Word, believe it, repent of your sins, confess Christ as Lord, and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. You’ll be raised to walk in a new life, a faithful life.

Or maybe you’ve already made that commitment, but you’ve fallen away. You can come back. We can pray with you and for you. God is ready to forgive. The question is, are you ready to return?

The choice is yours.

It always has been.
