In my sermon today, I delved into the profound concept of the pre-existence of Jesus Christ, a truth I find particularly compelling in the Gospel of John. I aimed to illuminate the idea that believing in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, is pivotal for our faith and leads us to the life He offers. This is grounded in John’s purpose, as stated in John 20:30-31.
I explored scriptural evidences from prophets like Micah and Isaiah, who foretold a ruler from ancient times, indicative of Jesus’ pre-existence. I highlighted how Jesus Himself, in John 8:56-58, affirmed His existence before Abraham. This was further corroborated by apostolic teachings, including Paul’s letters, underscoring Jesus’ role in creation.
The significance of Jesus’ pre-existence, as I see it, lies in three aspects:
- Deity of Christ: Understanding Jesus as pre-existent reinforces His divinity. I emphasized that He was with God, was God, and thus is worthy of our deepest love and adoration.
- Jesus as Life: As the Creator and sustainer of life, Jesus embodies our hope and assures us of resurrection.
- Jesus as Light: In a world often lost in darkness, Jesus is the guiding light, illuminating our path to salvation and truth.
Through this sermon, I aimed to impress upon you the importance of seeing Jesus not just as a historical figure but as the everlasting Son of God. This understanding is crucial for our relationship with Him and our spiritual journey.
I call on each of you to reflect on your relationship with Jesus. Are you truly following Him and embracing His teachings? I outlined the steps to salvation – hearing the Gospel, believing in Jesus, repenting of sins, confessing Him as Lord, and being baptized. This is not just a doctrinal path but a transformational journey that aligns us with Jesus’ eternal nature.
My hope was that you would feel moved to either begin your journey with Christ or reaffirm your commitment to His path. This is a personal invitation to each of you to embrace the light and life that is Jesus Christ.
