Today, I want to delve into a crucial aspect of our spiritual journey – the power of choices.
You see, every choice we make, every path we tread, shapes our lives in profound ways. This morning, I want to talk about a man from the Bible whose life was a tapestry of choices – some good, some not so. I’m talking about Lot, Abraham’s nephew. His story is more than just a historical account; it’s a mirror reflecting our own decision-making.
Lot’s life was a journey of choices, some seemingly good but leading to unexpected consequences. His decision to settle near Sodom seemed wise materially, but spiritually; it was a descent into a world of moral chaos. This choice brought immense suffering to him and his family – from being caught in a war to the ultimate destruction of his city. His wife turned into a pillar of salt, a permanent reminder of the cost of looking back when God calls us to move forward.
But why does Lot’s story matter to us? It’s a vivid illustration of the impact our choices have. The most significant choice you’ll ever make is whether to follow Jesus Christ. This decision shapes not only your earthly life but your eternal destiny. It influences every other decision – your career, your spouse, the friends you keep, and even where you live. Just like Lot, your choices can lead you into prosperity or peril.
So, how do we make the right choices? Firstly, seek God’s wisdom. James 1:5 reminds us to ask God for guidance, and He generously gives. Discuss your decisions with mature Christians, and consult the Bible, especially books like Proverbs, which is rich in wisdom.
But what if you realize you’ve made a wrong choice? Look at what Lot did – he heeded God’s warning and fled Sodom. Don’t hesitate to correct your course when you find yourself on the wrong path. Remember Lot’s wife and the danger of longing for a sinful past. If your choices have led you to sin, follow Peter’s example: repent. If you’ve erred, like Paul, accept Christ’s forgiveness and commit to living for the Lord.
This morning, I want you to reflect on your choices. Are they aligned with God’s will, or are they leading you toward your own Sodom and Gomorrah? And why wait if you haven’t yet made the most crucial choice – to follow Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Embrace the path of righteousness, be baptized for the remission of your sins, and live faithfully.
For those already walking with the Lord but have stumbled, remember, we’re all human. You can always seek God’s forgiveness.
