Today, I want to focus on the importance of properly handling God’s Word. The Bible, being the most profound book in existence, is often subjected to misuse. It’s essential for us to understand how to approach and interpret the Scriptures accurately, as highlighted in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and 2 Timothy 2:15.

Why should we exercise such care? First, it’s God’s word, as stated in 1 Thessalonians 2:13. The Scriptures are not just any book; they’re inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), designed to guide and teach us. Furthermore, in Matthew 15:14 and 1 Timothy 4:16, we are reminded of our responsibility towards those we teach, emphasizing the need to convey the truth accurately.

We will be judged by God’s word (Revelation 20:12, John 12:48), and the Bible is described as a powerful sword (Ephesians 6:17). The Scriptures hold immense power (Romans 1:16), but there’s also a real danger of being misled (Matthew 7:15), especially in a world where false teachings are prevalent.

Properly handling the Bible helps us understand crucial aspects such as the origin of man (Genesis 1:1, 26-27), the problem of sin (Genesis 3), and the remedy for sin (Mark 16:16). It’s vital to distinguish between the Old and New Testaments, as the Old Testament was designed for the Jews, and the New Testament is our guide today.

In studying the Scriptures, consider who is speaking and to whom. For instance, Jesus’ words in parables (Matthew 4:6) and Satan’s temptations (Luke 4:6-8). Understanding the context is key.

There are essential truths in Scripture we must grasp:

  1. The Path to Salvation: Understanding faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Luke 13:3), confession (Romans 10:9-10), and baptism (Acts 2:38).
  2. Church Membership: The necessity of being part of the body of Christ (Ephesians 5:23, 2:16).
  3. Worship: Worshiping God in spirit (Matthew 15:8-9) and truth (John 17:17).
  4. Conduct: Our behavior impacts others and reflects our faith.
  5. Christ’s Return: Knowing Christ will return for His followers (Hebrews 9:28).

Let’s reflect on whether we’re children of God, following the steps to salvation, living faithfully, and continually seeking forgiveness.
